Gold Digger

As a music Web site publisher, radio DJ and all-around-audiophile, I am exposed to an enormous amount of music. Between mudcat.org and WPSU FM, I get about 10 CDs in the mail per week. Plus, my friends and colleagues all know I'm nutty for this stuff, so they turn me on to another couple per week. Among other things, it serves to create quite a mess around the cabin.

My friends know me, and are pretty darn savvy, so the stuff I get from them is pretty spot on and quite enjoyable. However, music publishers, record companies, bands and publicists send me all sorts of stuff and, generously, we're at a 10% any-good (even-listenable) rate. Going through these mountains of CDs sometimes becomes a chore. I can't believe how many white guys with goatees and funny hats are still making Chicago Blues CDs. It's a lot like digging for gold.
Old school gold digging was back breaking work that required no less than divine hope to keep going. My process is back breaking in that I sit in front of a computer too long, but I too find a nugget every once in a while that makes it all worth it.
So today, in my ongoing effort to tidy the cabin, so, say, I could bring a date home someday, I attacked a couple of boxes and stacks.
Well, today, I found my nugget. In 2000, The Persuasions put out an all a cappella tribute CD of Frank Zappa songs. Frankly A Capella - The Persuasions Sing Zappa. Words cannot express how odd this is. I just love it when the universe admits it's absurd beauty.
